Gurdas Mann is of almost 55 years who was born on 4th of January 1957. He belongs to Gidderbaha, District Muktsar in state of Punjab (India). Gurdas Mann is the most successful actor in Punjabi Cinema of his time. He was a brilliant student in his school times. He also had a Black Belt in judo. He was a great singer from the days of his college/University.
Gurdas Mann started his search for job soon after completing his Masters degree in Physical Education. He even got a job in Punjab State Electricity Board, but fate did not let him do the job. While searching for new job, he did not end up with stage & singing. In one of his stage performances he sang a song with title “Dil Da Mamla Hai” and at the place of performance, a representative of HMV Music Company was also present. He heard his song and later called him to his office. And then he got the invitation from that company to release his very first album under the same title “Dil Da Mamla Hai”. Since then, he never looked back. He has recorded over 34 albums and some of his successful albums are Mamla Garbar Hai, Peer Tere Jaan Di, Wah Ni Jawaniye, Masti, Punjeeri, Yaar Mera Pyar, Ishq Na Dekhe Zaat, Mohabbat Zindabad and Chugliyan Chugliyan.
He loves and likes to stay connected to the rich and pure culture of Punjab. He also sung a numerous songs with Punjab, Punjabi Culture and Punjabi language used as theme like one of the most popular-Challan, Apna Punjab, Punjeeri,Yaar Punjabi, Punjabiye Zubane and many more.
He gave his best performances as an actor in “Shaheed-E-Mohabbat” (1999), which tells the real story for life of Boota Singh and “Waris Shah-Ishq Da Waaris” (2006), which was nominated for Academy Award. He has also acted in about more than 14 movies.
He is married to Manjit Kaur Mann, who is Producer and Director of Indian Punjabi Film. He has one son, Gurekam Singh who is studying abroad. Gurdas Mann is the owner of Sai Productions, the film production based in Mumbai.
In 2007, he won National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his song title “Couplet of Heer” for the movie “Waris Shah-Ishq Da Waaris”.
In 2009, he won “Best International Album” at UK Asian Music Awards for “Boot Polishan”.
In 2011 PTC Punjabi Film Award, he won the Critics Award for Best Actor in movie “Sukhmani”.
In 2012 he was honored by a special prize Kohinoor of Punjabi by PTC network.
